Audition Materials
Students auditioning for Encore should select a solo from the provided list below and prepare a 1-minute cut from the song.
Scores are available in the folder, and several of the songs are available in multiple keys. Whenever possible, choose the original key if selecting one of the musical theater songs. If you need a higher or lower key, select from any of the options provided in the folder.
​Singers are strongly encouraged to consider the pieces in other languages besides English.
Being selected for Encore provides membership to the ensemble. The director will then discuss which students will prepare full solos for the recital, while others may do their individual work on a solo cut or through the ensemble music.

ENCORE FAQs
Who is eligible for Encore?
High school singers and advanced 8th graders, by audition only.
All participants are expected to be able to learn at a fast pace and receive individual feedback well.
Singers must spend time outside of rehearsal preparing their music.

What is a Master Class?
In a master class, one singer performs alone for the group and receives specific feedback on technique and performance skills.
This is done in a classroom setting so that all participants - both the performer and the listeners - learn together. Encore rehearsals will be a hybrid of ensemble and master-class style work. Singers will receive individual feedback and opportunities to grow their vocal skills in various settings and should be prepared to sing alone in front of the group, whether on a full solo, or a short excerpt during rehearsal.

What type of music will Encore perform?
The group will study music appropriate for choral ensembles, and select individuals will prepare a solo for the final recital. 

​Where will Encore perform?
Encore will make an appearance on the CAYC spring concert, then give a full concert/recital at a local retirement/assisted living facility. This free performance for the residents may be included on Encore participants’ community service records.  

What should I prepare for the audition?
Each singer should prepare a cut from the solos listed that fit their voice well. If selected for Encore, singers may also be selected to perform a portion, or all, of their chosen solo for the final recital. For the audition, singers may perform unaccompanied, with a karaoke/instrumental track, or they may bring sheet music for the accompanist.

What if I can't make the audition date?
Singers who cannot attend the live auditions may submit a video audition by midnight the day before auditions.
