What will choir look like this year?
Cary-Apex Youth Choir will continue to closely monitor the COVID-19 situation, including keeping up-to-date with guidelines and procedures put forth by the CDC, local health department and schools and reviewing scientific research as it is released.  We will respond accordingly by making appropriate adjustments to our rehearsal space and procedures as necessary.  Choir groups will be kept small, and may split into even smaller groups, if necessary, for safer in-person meetings.  Cary-Apex Youth Choir remains committed to providing a safe, engaging and rewarding music experience for its singers throughout the year.  Participants should be prepared to be flexible to the changing conditions this year.

Outdoor Rehearsals - As much as possible, and weather permitting, we will meet outside with each choir group.  If a change in conditions makes it necessary, we may divide into even smaller groups to maintain reasonable numbers and generous physical distancing.
We will...
  • Provide hand sanitizer and wipes on site
  • Screen participants upon arrival
  • Use numbered spots to designate a standing location for each singer, maintaining physical distance
  • Issue music and a sight-reading book to each singer to be kept for the season - no sharing
  • Provide a live-stream of rehearsal for singers who are absent
Parents will...
  • Complete health screening & temperature check for their child at home, prior to rehearsal
  • Answer screening questions upon arrival or complete online questionnaire
  • Report any case of COVID-19 within the household or close contacts & follow CDC guidelines for self-quarantines
  • Be encouraged to leave after check-in & return for pick-up, or stay distanced during rehearsal
Singers will...
  • Bring 1 bag containing their music folder, pencil pouch (use mechanical pencils or bring sharpener), and water bottle.  Singers may need a book light for rehearsals after sundown.
  • Wear a mask for the duration of rehearsal.

Online Rehearsals - When conditions require, rehearsals will continue in online format.  This may happen in the event of unfavorable weather conditions, renewed Stay-at-Home orders, or reduced gathering size guidelines.
We will...
  • Run rehearsals on Zoom
  • Continue providing quality instruction including rehearsal of repertoire, group discussions related to our studies, and guest presenters (composers, conductors, special interests)
  • Consider a reduction in rehearsal length, if appropriate, to avoid "Zoom fatigue"
Singers will...
  • Need a quiet, private space to practice
  • Bring their materials and actively participate

Indoor Rehearsals - During the winter months, rehearsals will rotate between outdoors and an indoor space with adequate distancing accommodations.  Singing inside will be limited to a maximum of 30 minutes at a time, in accordance with health & safety guidance for choirs.  When it is deemed safe and possible, we will consider returning to regular indoor group rehearsals.

Performances - Our performances will be released in video format.
